Movie Poster Cover

The design project was pretty simple, we were asked to choose one movie and design our own poster. We were told to take into consideration the following elements:

  1. Research:
    • Mood Board.
    • Movie Argument.
    • Keywords.
    • Human characteristics.
    • Tangible elements.
  2. Sketches.
  3. Final design.

The movie

I choose “Little Woman“, I recently went to see the last version by director Greta Gerwig. Nothing is out of place in this movie: colors, performances and the message. We still have some battles to fight.

Here is a quote from the movie that I like

I’m not a poet, I’m just a woman
And as a woman, there’s no way for me to make my own money. Not enough to earn a living or to support my family, and if I had my own money, which I don’t, that money would belong to my husband the moment we got married. And if we had children, they would be his, not mine. They would be his property, so don’t sit there and tell me that marriage isn’t an economic proposition, because it is. It may not be for you, but it most certainly is for me.y » Amy

Mood Board

This part was really fun to do. They recommended some tools to create this digital mood board, but since I was already familiar with Miro it was my first choice.

A board made with love with all the little woman posters and key words to be inspired

Sketches

I draw about seven ideas, but the one that I love the most was number four. A superposition of each character color and silhouette, I have also in mind to incorporate an object for each of them initially.

A quick sketch of the movie poster, it shows a draft of some profiles overlapping each other.

The final result

With this particular project the teacher use Illustrator for the whole design. So, I decided to use some vectors and a simple approach as well. Here is the final result, although I would love to have more time to play with the colors I do have to set some time restrictions with these projects, after all, in real-life, time constraints are part of the trade.

The final posters, I created a profile silhouette of the actresses and each one is in one particular color.

Today after a long day of work I tried to present the final test, and I failed. It was amazing to see that for me is not the grade, but failing quickly and learning what really makes sense now.

The final poster, but a cleaner version of the design.

I’ll try to present the test tomorrow again after reading my notes. The next step is “Diseño de interfaces y UX“. Today my beloved friends let me know that I should apply to a design position. I want to believe that I’m able to do this. Comments and nice feedback to grow as an interface designer is always appreciated.
